Committed to Serving You While Keeping Our "Social Distance" - COVID-19 Message

Our nation has been trying its best to stop COVID -19 from spreading in our communities.  Not knowing what will happen in the next few weeks and months leaves us all with questions.   In order to keep all of us as safe and healthy as possible, we are going to maintain contact with you via phone, email and regular mail service as needed.  We are not scheduling in-office or face-to-face meetings.

At this time, Dan, Wanda and Gwen are in the office Monday through Friday 9-5pm daily.  We are responding to all calls and emails in a timely manner.  Just know, we can also work remotely and will be able to respond to any needs in the event of a full office closure.  Should you need to make a payment or a policy change, please reach out to us directly at 651-264-1230.  The Contact Us tab at the top of the website has all of our emails as well.

If it is after hours and you have a claim to report, calling your carrier directly would be a faster response.  This is a great time to make sure you have your insurance carrier's MOBILE app as well.  Here is the carrier link page.  https://www.lancetteagency.com/links.aspx

What Happens When An Excluded Driver Is Involved In A Not-At-Fault Accident?

Hands on Steering WheelIf you're married and/or have children, you may have multiple drivers listed on your auto insurance policy. This may especially be true if several people share the same vehicle. But on the other hand, there may be certain people that you do not want driving your car. This may be because this person:
  • Is not trustworthy or responsible
  • Has DUIs or other driving infractions
  • Has a felony conviction
  • Does not have a license
  • Has a terrible driving record
Whatever your reasoning, you can list specific people you want excluded from coverage on your car insurance policy. This means that if an excluded person is driving your car, he or she will not be covered if an accident occurs — even if the car is being driven in the case of an emergency. If this driver is high-risk, then excluding him or her from coverage can result in reduced premiums.

But what happens if this excluded driver takes out your car anyway and is involved in a not-at-fault accident? In a normal scenario, the at-fault driver's insurance would step in to cover your loss. However, once the at-fault driver's insurance provider discovers that the other driver is excluded, the claim could be denied. And the owner of the car would likely be responsible for paying the damages out-of-pocket.

This means that not only could you be out thousands, but the at-fault driver could get away without financial repercussions. Essentially, whether or not an accident is caused by the excluded driver, the car owner could be in for some financial woe.

If you have an excluded driver listed on your auto insurance policy, it's in your best interests to take every possible step to prevent that person from getting behind the wheel of your car.
